HISTORY !!!!
Alan started painting at the age of 50: this despite (or maybe because! ) he was brought up surrounded by the very professional paintings of his aunt Grace Joel who painted as a professional in England ( is known to Christies ) and had some tuition from Renoir. In any event, Alan's training consisted of one to one tuition from two of the top painters in England. Expensive but great fun and with many advantages.
Ken Paine :- A law unto himself ! Probably the top Pastel Portrait artist in the UK and the only Englishman to be a vice-president of the French Pastel Society. Ken knows all the rules but really teaches by inspiration and encourages one to'go for Broke' as the saying goe
Dennis Syrett :- Is a quite different artist with a great range of work as well as portraits and his outlook is different. He is a taskmaster for accuracy and so was a great foil for me. He is a member of ROI, RBA,and RThe Royal Institute of Marine Painters. He is currently President of ROI. This is a much more expensive training than a conventional Art college but with many advantages and much fun.
The photo of Ruby (the daughter of Mark and Emily ) is indeed a photo and I have placed it there jist to practise putting photos invarious places. I am trying to paint a masterpiece of Ruby but so far success eludes me : the photo is so beautifull that I may never succeed ! As you can see from the picture above i have not succeeded but will try again in oils
This painting was a commision for Bristol University . It is a larrge oil , about 4feet by three feet and shown next to a garden seat to show the size. Bristol University were very pleased at the accuracy and feel or this copy which they wanted to place in the Badock Student hostel.
